How to Recover My Domain Name

This comes up fairly regularly. Why has no one told me about Changeupdate.com?

I have a new client, a Catholic Church, who had a site built and maintained by a Philipine company and a domain registered with Godaddy.

The Parish priest knew the username and password and account number but 2 Factor Authentication was Enabled and was sending  a code to both a phone number and an email address he did not have access to or even recognise. The domain had been registered many years earlier so it was understandable that as time had gone by this small but important information had been lost.

I phoned Godaddy expecting  to be told there was nothing i could do, and therefore that we would have to get a new domain. And they told me about Changeupdate.com?

Where you get these 3 options to start from to Recover My Domain Name:

  • Email Access
You have lost access to the primary email address on your account.
  • Domain Access
You are listed as the Registrant on one or more domains, but do not have access to the account that contains the domain(s).
  • 2-Step Verification Access
You are not able to successfully complete the 2-Step Verification process to access an account you own.

It looks like you have to uploaded Passports and things so it will probably take time. BUT… it looks like it could work!

If this does not work and my client does regain control of their domain name or failes to get access to their domain then i will update this post –
